Are teachers allowed to keep students after the bell?

my teacher was writing names on the board of ppl who were talking and who hafta stay after class with her. My friend was talking to me and i wasnt talking back and my teacher wrote my name on the board and made me a stay after class along with 9 other students. she made us miss our bus. apparently our punishment was we had to walk home? and she didnt even contact our parents or the office or anything. is she even allowed to do this? because everyone that she kept after class lives rly far away from school but she didnt even care. and i got in trouble for nothing. i tried to tell her but she wasnt listening. i told my parents and they are mad but before they go down there and talk to the office i just wanna kno if shes allowed to do that to kids?
