CAR PROBLEMS?! can you help me?!?

so i have a 97 land rover, and i love her! but she has this one problem now that my dad and i cant figure out:/ she starts and runs but once you start her you have to punch it so the engine clears out and once i clears ou she will work all day. but if you turn her off then you hafta punch it again. what could this be?!
