Shaving my pubes hurts...?

This is kind of an awkward question but this is my last hope, I recently started growing pubic hair and every time I try to shave it off, these annoying little red, itchy bumps appear and they don't go away for days... I hafta go to school with that stuff!! Is there any way I can fix that? Thanks! :D
